Sorry I didn't respond earlier, I was driving home.
I really wasn't in the mood to stick around after the whole ordeal, plus I only had about 50-70mins of sleep on Friday night/Saturday morning before driving to Damascus.
First off, Little Mac ('98) was with me and we were about 100' or so feet in front of the accident.
I promise you this isn't a plug for our podcast, but I am going to do a much better job of speaking about what happened, rather than typing it all out.
I will say this: 3 of the people we recorded BEFORE the parade were VERY close to the accident: "Hey Whitey" had to shove a friend out of the way of the car, "Chipmunk" (a 14 year old girl who is attempting to become the youngest solo AT ThruHiker) saw it happen next to her, and "Big Yankee" jumped into the backseat of the car, attempting to stop it from rolling.
We didn't record their experiences in the parade because that would be f√¢king-TMZ-tacky.
Overall it was a very confusing experience, fueled by rumors, opinions, and general chaos.
Seems like more & more is leaking out about the facts (he was IN the parade somehow?), I'm sure that we'll know more tomorrow.
Tonight, hug your family members, hug your dogs, and keep the victims in your thoughts.
